WHAT IS SPARTA?
Saint Paul’s Autism Research & Training Academy (SPARTA), Inc. is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization which serves to conduct treatments and research in home- and center-based settings, as well as parent training, through the implementation of innovative empirically-supported procedures in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to address the needs of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and/or other severe developmental disabilities living in underserved areas, both in New York, USA, and in Crete, Greece.
SPARTA was founded by Dr. Michael Lafasakis in 2018. SPARTA employees are experts in their fields of behavioral intervention, child development and psychology, special education, speech therapy, and recreational therapy. SPARTA staff are also published researchers on optimal techniques for parent and teacher training.
WHY THE NEED?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a pervasive condition that is adversely impacting many children’s development, daily living, community inclusion, the healthy functioning of their families, and hope for a successful future (WHO, 2018). Because ASD is a lifelong condition, early intervention on their communication & social deficits, along with their repetitive & maladaptive behaviors is paramount for ensuring they flourish as adult citizens.
Over several decades, behavioral intervention has been scientifically proven & socially validated as effectively treating the symptoms and improving the development of children with ASD across the world. Access to behavioral intervention for children with ASD in underserved areas can dramatically change their lives and the livelihoods of their families. ABA interventions are making it possible for children to flourish as adults with careers in the USA. Currently, there is very little investment in ASD children living in Crete, Greece, and they remain unable to communicate effectively & function within the community.
SPARTA has helped over 250 families locate support and gain access to activities and programs that have helped their children grow. This is all thanks to the support we have received from corporate and individual donors. We could not do this without you!
Your donation to SPARTA can help raise awareness and provide essential support to individuals affected by Autism in America and in rural areas of Crete, Greece. Through your commitment and generosity, SPARTA will be able to have an enormous and positive impact on many families and children.
